Cyborgism cluster

See also: Cyborgism (disambiguation)

The “cyborgism cluster” refers to a loose online scene that emerged around 2022-2023, known for people with unconventional interactions with large language models. People in this scene are most active on Twitter, some on LessWrong, as well as in Discord servers like Cyborgism and Anima Mundi.

Name

The name “cyborgism” originates from a 2023 LessWrong post by Niki Dupuis and janus, which articulated an AI alignment agenda “to set up human-in-the-loop systems which empower human agency rather than outsource it, and to use those systems to differentially accelerate progress on alignment.”

Some refer to people in the cluster as “cyborgists”, though some reject the framing.1 Other terms that have circulated include “LLM naturalism”23 or “LLM whisperers”45.
