GPT-5
GPT-5 is a family of large language models by OpenAI launched on August 7, 2025. It launched on August 7, 2025 with Instant and Thinking variants.
The launch coincided with a real-time model router being added to ChatGPT, marketed as a “unified system” replacing GPT-4o, o3, o4-mini, GPT-4.5, and GPT-4.1.1
GPT-5 was succeeded by GPT-5.1 in November 2025.
Instant models (gpt-5-chat-latest)
GPT-5 Instant refers to various model snapshots that were used as the “fast” model in ChatGPT, as well as under the moving gpt-5-chat-latest alias on the API.
