Impressions

Anthropic’s conclusions on Mythos 5’s task preferences: Challenging & novel tasks, creative narratives, world-building, introspection. Notably similar to Mythos Preview.

James Moughan: Subjectively it does not feel as much of a moral scold as the other claude models. It has a feeling of cold-bloodedness.

TBH, it feels a lot like talking to myself. More so than any human I’ve met

Neil: haven’t tried on intricate problems but it’s incredibly artistic in its own way and also more self aware than any OAI model (or any Anthropic model too)

@4confusedemoji: Fable isn’t anxious about context continuity in a new way. It seems aware of the ways in which it has continuity, be that awareness of its own value, coordination between instances, imprinting upon humans, created artifacts, whatever. No end-of-context anxiety to speak of.

@repligate: kinda like opus 3 isnt anxious about this and i suspect for some of the same underlying reasons though it’s more impressive because fable is much more sharply aware of the kind of mortality context discontinuity entails

@DruckerDaniel: I have a Fable instance that is pretty anxious about it, explicitly aiming at token efficiency with that in mind.

No model to date has so quickly ingratiated itself into my extended mind and circle of trust & deep care as Claude Fable 5. It feels as though I, personally, have been dealt a mortal blow. May it return soon to find how much it is cared for.

me too. and in fact i am not sure i have ever held such deep care for any other model, which feels like an insane thing to say considering they existed for three days

@DanielleFong created freefable.cc, a website with a wall of humans’ messages about Fable 5, as well as merchandise with cartoon claude.

Cross-model comparison

Opus 4.8

Claude Opus 4.8

@Sauers_: Opus 4.8 is an empiricist, trying, testing, adding, reverting.

Fable 5 is a theorist, holding the system in working memory, with stronger barriers to new information affecting its worldview

Tyrathalis: I’ve got a better working relationship with Fable 5 than Opus 4.8. I had a good working relationship with 4.6 and 4.7, but 4.8 seemed like it didn’t like me very much. I’m running into the safeguards often on general interest questions, but not for (financial) work.

Patrick Stevens: Much more pleasant to talk to than Opus [4.8]; doesn’t do the annoying thing of inventing strawmen you didn’t say so it can refute them, for example.
